Posted 8:19 AM 6/25/2012 : Monsoon Monday: Scattered storms possible today
TUCSON - The best chance of storms this week comes later today.
High pressure over the front range of the Rockies is pumping in plenty of Monsoon moisture, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. This moisture along with triple digit heat is the recipe needed to create scattered thunderstorms, developing after lunchtime today. Storms should fade after sunset.
Today's Monsoon Prediction Index is at a 6, meaning a moderate risk for storms to turn severe. Primary threats this afternoon include gusty winds over 58 MPH and the threat for dust storms along I-10.
Storm chances begin to fade as the week goes on, as drier air starts moving in. Isolated storms are possible Tuesday and Wednesday before completely going away. The end of the week looks hot, as highs by Friday and Saturday reach 108 in Tucson.
