Posted 9:15 AM 7/27/2012 : Weekend Washout? Monsoon storm chances ramping up
TUCSON - The Monsoon is back.
According to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish, high pressure over Oklahoma draws in moisture and an inverted trough to southern Arizona. This returns a chance of isolated storms this afternoon from Tucson and points east. Storms should fade after 10 PM this evening.
Our exclusive Monsoon Prediction Index is at 3 today, with a low risk of severe weather.
An active weekend is taking shape, as scattered storms develop Saturday and Sunday. Some of these storm could be severe, with gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall over an inch. Daytime highs peak in the mid 90's for Tucson.
Drier air brings a slight decrease in thunderstorms next week, as high pressure moves back toward the state. Temps increase as a result, with 100's back by Wednesday and Thursday.
