Posted 8:50 AM 6/22/2012 : Increasing chances for Monsoon storms today, this weekend
TUCSON - Monsoon moisture's making a return, as is the thunder threat for southern Arizona.
High pressure residing near the Four Corners is bringing moisture back, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. This afternoon, isolated thunderstorms will develop east of the Tucson metro. These storms should stay confined to the mountains of Cochise, Graham and Greenlee Counties. A stray storm may make it into the valley floors, impacting Sierra Vista, Willcox or Safford. Most of southern Arizona will be dry today.
Enough moisture moves in over the weekend to warrant a chance of isolated valley & scattered mountain thunderstorms. The best chance for Monsoon storms looks to be Sunday and Monday for Tucson, with the Monsoon Prediction Index up to a 5 each day. This means a moderate risk of a few storms turning severe.
High temperatures over the next 7 days range from 106 today to the upper 90's Monday. Isolated storms stay in the forecast heading into the middle portion of next week.
