Posted 10:13 AM 8/23/2013 : All eyes on Tropical Storm Ivo this weekend
TUCSON - The eastern Pacific energizes Monsoon 2013 the next 72 hours.
Isolated storms are expected this afternoon & tonight, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. The atmosphere isn't as unstable as yesterday, hindering the severe weather threat. A few storms may be capable of locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds.
Tropical Storm Ivo in the eastern Pacific Ocean ramps up storm chances this weekend. A gulf surge of moisture heads into southern Arizona tomorrow, leading to scattered storms. Typically, the day after a surge starts tends to be more active. The best chance of scattered storms this weekend should arrive Sunday.
Many southern Arizona locations see 0.50-1.00" rain this weekend. Heaviest rainfall amounts should be just west of the Tucson metro.
