Posted 5:29 PM 4/14/2013 : International filmmakers contribute to local economy
TUCSON-The 22nd Annual International Film Festival has 140 films from 32 countries.
The event gives the Old Pueblo worldwide recognition and helps boost the local economy.
Filmmakers come from all over for the festival.
News 4 Tucson met a crew that came all the way from India.
The crew said before they head back, they're definitely going to do a lot of sightseeing.
Gauri Chadha is the writer-director and producer of Gawah.
She travelled with Duleep Regmi, director of photography and another crew member to represent their film.
"It was a journey that we just had to take," said Chadha.
The only film out of India in the festival, Chadha said she couldn't pass up the opportunity to attend.
"We want to be able to make the most of it be able to see some great films, and hopefully see some great places as well," said Chadha.
It's Regmi's first time in the United States, and he said he wants to make the most of it.
"Let's begin with Tucson. I'm really excited to see the places over here," said Regmi.
They will sightsee, try different restaurants and buy souvenirs.
"They're probably going to spend a couple thousand," said Mia Schnaible with the Arizona International Film Festival.
She tells News 4 Tucson so far filmmakers from 47 of the 140 films are in Tucson for the festival.
"We'll probably have 55 films represented," said Schnaible.
Each person is contributing to our economy.
"When the people come, they spend money," said Schnaible.
Filmmaker William Stribbling is spending three days in Tucson, and he estimates he'll spend at least 500 dollars.
"The average film goer spends between 200 and 250 dollars per day," said Schnaible.
While on the trip, filmmakers also scout locations for their next film.
"The kind of location that we're seeing here is amazing," said Regmi.
It's possible some of these filmmakers will be in town again soon.
The festival goes until April 28.
