Posted 6:51 AM 5/16/2012 : Tucson man turns to Interfaith Community Services for job help
TUCSON- Jim Corcoran's daily task is looking for a job.
He has been out of work for more than a year now but is a step closer to finding a career, all thanks to Tucson's Interfaith Community Services.
He lost his marketing position about a year ago and even with a bachelor's degree and a background in higher education; he hasn't been able to find work.
"It's certainly frustrating," Corcoran says."That's just the way it is."
But making his search a little easier are two resource centers run by Tucson's Interfaith Community Services.
"They have very knowledgeable people, very friendly and very non-judgmental," Corcoran says.
The ICS has one resource center located at 2820 West Ina Road and another located at 8701 East Old Spanish Trail. Both are stocked with computers and volunteers ready to help.
"We have people here who work as volunteers that have a business background and they know the ins and outs of looking for jobs," ICS Board President Steve Pollyea says.
Corcoran comes to the center on Ina Road a few times a week. He says the volunteers have helped him tighten up his resume and build his online skills.
"Everything is done so electronically these days," Corcoran says. "People just scan over things, if you don't use the right words, they pass you up."
Even though he hasn't found a job yet, Corcoran says he's in a much better place after seeking help from ICS. "Something will happen; something will show up, you just have to keep putting the next foot in front of the other."
There will be an open house at the resource center on Old Spanish Trail Thursday, May 17, from 11am to 1pm.
