TUCSON -A hometown icon was seriously injured in a biking accident over the weekend.

Karl Eller, born and raised in Tucson, played football at U of A. In 1968, he was one of the founding investors of the Phoenix Suns. Among Eller's major business endeavors, he head Columbia Pictures during the studio's merger with Coca-Cola and Circle K. Eller was also the very first Arizonan to be inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame.

Karl Eller has been in a hospital in La Jolla, California since his accident Friday. We spoke to the hospital, and all they could tell us is that he is still in critical condition.

In a blog where the Eller family has posted about Karl's accident, the family writes how Karl fell trying to kick the kick stand up from his bike, losing his balance and hitting his head on concrete.

The University of Arizona's Eller College of Management is named after Karl Eller. Faculty and staff there are keeping him in mind during this difficult time.

The sent this statement: "Karl Eller has long been a vital part of the college that bears his name, from the founding of the entrepreneurship program in 1985 to today, as an active member of our National Board of Advisors. Karl continues to be a tireless advocate for the Eller College, an invaluable advisor and mentor, and a beacon for entrepreneurial, ethical leadership. On behalf of the entire community of students, staff, faculty, alum, and volunteers here at the Eller College, we hope and pray for his swift recovery."

In the blog where the Eller family has posted about Karl's accident they have this message:

"The Eller family thanks you for all your support, thoughts and prayers for Karl. We are all praying for his speedy recovery."
