TUCSON - The end of the Sabino Canyon shuttle marks the start of the Sabino Canyon Trail.

Almost immediately, a series of switchbacks greets hikers. The legs may burn initially, but the trail's more bark than bite. Many hikers say it's challenging but not overly difficult.

If you go out and back, there's only a 350 foot elevation gain.

What's nice about this hike is it allows hikers to hook up to other trails, such as the Bear Canyon, Phoneline and East Fork.

One hiker said, "It's very very isolated back there, so you're sitting between the front range and the back range of the Catalinas".

Not limited in hiking options or vistas. The Sabino Canyon Trail gives you the perfect perch to take in valley views or the stunning Catalina summits.

Expect a well-maintained trail, where the birds and the bees can seeming be spotted at any point. Also a must-see: the spring wildflowers.

"This time of year, the wildflowers are out on many hikes in the area. It's really beautiful to see some of the wildflowers out in the Spring", said one hiker.

This day hike should take the average hiker about 3 hours to complete, roughly 5 miles round trip.
