Posted 5:10 AM 2/3/2012 : Hittin' the Trails 4 You: The hike to Tanque Verde Falls
TUCSON - The trail to Tanque Verde Falls is a treasure trove for hikers.
For starters, this out and back trail is surprisingly well-kept, flanked by plenty of desert flora.
As you descend, you'll encounter some swtichbacks. Hikers here say they're more bark than bite.
But the payoff? An oasis in the desert. Hiker Jennifer Yamnitz said, "It's just stunning. You have the canyon walls and it's nice and shady. You also have the water and it just opens up. It was much better than we anticipated".
This trail is fun for humans & man's best friend too. Make sure to keep your four-legged friends leashed if you bring them along.
The base of the canyon marks the end of the trail, which is a half-mile in length & nothing more than moderate. If you want to continue up the canyon toward Tanque Verde Falls, it gets harder.
"There were a lot of boulders, it was crossing the creek, it was really some hands and knees kind of climbing", said Yamnitz.
Regardless of whether you go boulder-hopping or not, Tanque Verde Falls is one high reward hike that won't disappoint.
