TUCSON - The hike to the Phoneline Trail begins at the Bear Canyon Trail, a short segment less than a mile in length.

A sign that you're getting closer to Phoneline: Sabino Creek, which should be running due to melting snow in the higher elevations. If a running desert creek isn't rare enough, changing leaves on the trees adds to the scenery.

Hiker Dee Kaumeyer said, "You're in the desert, you don't think about colors. So when you get to see colors, it's like yay!"

Minutes after passing Sabino Creek, you'll reach the Phoneline Trail. "The trail was just spectacular. Up on the side of the canyon looking down at the stream and the other side of the canyon walls, very picturesque", said hiker Bob Hitzhusen.

Hikers say Phoneline is a moderate hike, only gaining 700 feet of elevation. But the biggest thing people rave about: how well maintained the trail is. "This trail obviously gets a lot of tender loving care. We saw volunteers working even as we were out hiking today," said Hitzhusen.

"It's great; you can't miss where it is. You don't even need cairns because it's totally obvious", said Kaumeyer.

Pairing with this perfect trail is amazing views of Tucson and the Catalina Mountains. Come into this expecting an 8 mile round trip hike, taking roughly 4 hours start to finish.
