Posted 6:10 AM 5/11/2012 : Hittin' the Trails 4 You: Sabino Canyon's Bajada Trail
TUCSON - "Bajada" is a Spanish word for sloping skirt of sediments surrounding a desert floor. Residing at Sabino Canyon is a trail with that moniker and a classroom for those who hike it.
The Bajada Trail is a short stroll filled with interpretive signage, pointing out desert flora like ocotillo and catclaw acacia. While the saguaros need no introduction, the crested ones do. It's said one out of every 250,000 saguaros take a flattened shape near the top.
From saguaros to prickly pears and their beautiful blooms: now is the perfet time to take in these gorgeous cactus flowers.
As for the hike, it's what you'd expect with a nature trail. Only spanning a quarter-mile, the Bajada Trail is flat. Find the Bajada Trail near the visitor center at Sabino Canyon.
