MOUNT LEMMON - Maybe it's the sounds from a mountain stream. Perhaps the glow of green or smell of the forest.

Whatever it is, Marshall Gulch gets top billing for Mount Lemmon hikers. "Its just a little bit cooler because there's all the shade and so it's nicer to hike without being in the warm sun", said hiker Jessica Jackson.

For starters, Marshall Gulch runs 30 degrees cooler than Tucson. It's a trail flanked by towering trees and lots of wildlife, ranging from ground squirrels to lavender butterflies.

The Monsoon has made Marshall Gulch a hiking haven. Not only is the stream running at a good clip, but recent rains have brought big blooms. A beautiful array of wildflowers can be found, led by the colorful columbines.

The trail itself is fairly easy, ending with a slight elevation gain & wide enough to bring along Fido. Just make sure to keep dogs leashed.

Out and back, Marshall Gulch checks in around 2.5 miles, taking a little over an hour to complete. But as you'll find out, there's no need to rush this hike.
