TUCSON - On this final Friday of the year, we're looking back in "Hittin' the Trails 4 You". Here are Jeff's four favorite hikes of 2011.

Pima Canyon Trail gave us the hiking story of the year: an Ohio woman named Kari Elkins, who trained to take a hiker with her sister. "It's not like I started walking 20 miles a day. I just started slowly and got more and more healthy & working out with my friends and trainer", said Elkins.

Kari and her sister accomplished the hike to the First Dam, which is a 3.5 hour hike that gains roughly 1,000 feet in elevation.

Jeff's surprise hike of 2011 was Molino Basin in the Catalina Mountains. Not only was there abundant wildlife, but a stream that flows depending on the season. Molino Basin is part of an 800 mile hiking trail, which starts at the International Border and ends in Utah.

An extreme fire danger shut down most southern Arizona hiking trails the middle of 2011. One of the few that remained opened was the Sweetwater Preserve on Tucson's west side. It's a county park home to over 9 miles worth of trails, showing off Tucson and desert flora.

The king of this year's "Hittin' the Trails" segment? The King Canyon Trail, located in the Tucson Mountains. It's a high reward hike featuring petroglyphs dating back to 900 A.D. "There's one that looks like a tadpole, another looks like a sun. There's some that look like stick figures", said hiker Dave Caruso.

From the trailhead to Wasson Peak, the King Canyon Trail is 3.5 miles one way.
