TUCSON - This morning on News 4 Tucson Today, Meteorologist Jeff Beamish introduced our viewers to the "hiker's checklist".

Yesterday's hiker rescue in Sabino Canyon made for at least the 9th hiking-related incident this year, according to Northwest Fire. Officials stress that making a checklist the night before a hike can prepare you in case of an emergency.

Among the items that should be included on your hiking checklist:

¦Candle, firestarter, matches (waterproof or in sealed tin)
¦Cell phone
¦Clothing (always bring something warm, extra socks and rain gear)
¦First aid kit
¦Food (bring extra)
¦Flashlight or headlamp
¦Foil (to use as a cup or signaling device)
¦Hat
¦Insect repellent
¦Map/compass
¦Pocket knife
¦Pocket mirror (to use as a signaling device)
¦Prescription glasses (an extra pair)
¦Prescription medications for ongoing medical conditions
¦Radio with batteries
¦Space blanket or a piece of plastic (to use for warmth or shelter)
¦Sunglasses
¦Sunscreen
¦Trash bag (makes an adequate poncho)
¦Water (1 gallon per person, per day)
¦Water purification tablets
¦Whistle (to scare off animals or to use as a signaling device)

It is prohibited to be on the following trails:
