Posted 10:11 PM 4/15/2012 : GOP candidates gearing up for CD 8 special election

TUCSON - Only two days left before the Congressional District 8 special election to complete the term of former Representative Gabrielle Giffords.

The candidates have been busy with phone banks, meet and greets and neighborhood walk and knocks. Each candidate is vying to represent Congressional District 8.

The GOP candidates include Giffords' 2010 opponent Jesse Kelly, State Senator Frank Antenori, political newcomer and retired U.S. Air Force pilot Martha McSally and broadcaster Dave Sitton.

They are all battling it out for the opportunity to run against Democrat Ron Barber in the general election in June.

The GOP foursome have had little time to get their messages out to voters or collect money for ads, direct mail, and other outreach efforts.

All of them have been out on the campaign trail this weekend trying their best to get enough voter support.

After Tuesday's election comes the general election June 12.

The winner will hold the CD 8 seat until the end of this year. Then, the race for the full term district kicks off in August.

Polls open for Tuesday's special primary election at 6 a.m.
