TUCSON - There's outrage and anguish over the decision to drop manslaughter charges against a man who admits to shooting his girlfriend in front of their two-year-old son.

Genna Ayup died in that shooting and now her family and friends want justice.

The 27-year-old Ayup was shot at the couple's eastside home back in June. Pima County prosecutors say there was insufficient evidence in the case against Ayup's boyfriend James Corbin Jr. who told investigators he was cleaning his gun when it accidentally went off.

A facebook page dedicated to Genna Ayup has nearly 1,700 likes meaning, many want justice for Genna.

Rachel Smith is her best friend, who lives in New Mexico. She started the facebook page. She's outraged at the dismissal of Ronald Corbin's charges. She says, "I'm sick to my stomach about it. So is Genna's family and people who've commented on the Justice for Genna facebook page."

Dana writes, "I'm so enraged." Kristi B. ends her comment by saying "They shouldn't just let the guy walk scott free, they need to hold him accountable in some way."

Smith says, "They're angry about the outcome. They want justice for Genna they want some sort of justice for her son who is left without a mother now."
News 4 reached out to Ronald Corbin, and asked him to give his side of the story. He replied, "No thank you".

According to the County Attorney's office, Corbin never gave a formal statement to Tucson Police Detectives.

Smith adds, "He needs to be accountable for his actions whether it was an accident or not. I feel there needs to be some consequences for his actions."

Kellie Johnson of the Pima County Attorney's Office released this statement to News 4. "As prosecutors we're ethically bound to charge only those cases which we believe we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt and here the evidence of Mr. Corbin's criminal intent is insufficient to meet that burden."

The case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning charges can be refiled at a later date if detectives can come up with more evidence.
