TUCSON - The family of a man shot and killed by a Tucson police officer nearly a month ago is asking for justice. They gathered for a candlelight memorial on Sunday evening to pay tribute to Johnny Castillo-Romero.
They held signs and walked from Castillo-Romero's home to the Valencia Gardens Apartments, where he was killed.
Last month, a Tucson Police sergeant responded to a 911 call, reporting that Castillo-Romero allegedly tried to shoot a man. When police responded, they say a wheelchair-bound Castillo-Romero reached for a gun from his waistband and aimed it at the officer, prompting him to open fire.
Johnny Castillo-Romero's family is devastated that his life was cut short at the hands of police. They plead for answers to move on. "We just want to know what happened? Exactly what happened? That's all we're asking. What happened?" said Castillo-Romero's aunt Sonia Romero.
Police are unable to comment while the incident is under investigation.
"Until we're completely sure about everything - that we've gathered all our facts and analyzed all the evidence, we don't want to comment any further until we are finished with that," said Sgt. Chris Widmer.
