Posted 6:02 PM 5/7/2012 : Sheriff's department beefs up investigation into a child sexual assault

TUCSON- No arrests in the sexual assault of a young girl last week on the city's northeast side.

Pima County Sheriff's deputies say a man broke into a home near Melpomene Way and Snyder where three young girls were staying with their grandmother and sexually assaulted one of them.

A composite sketch of a suspect was released last week by the Sheriff's Department. He's described as white man in his 20's wearing dark shorts a green sleeveless shirt and dark-colored glasses.

The Sheriff's Department has received over 200 tips from the public. They are beefing up the investigation by adding eight additional detectives from other units.

Detective Karen Couture normally works burglary, but now is helping the Crimes Against Children unit. On this day she has more than dozen tips to check out, "We have a citizen calling in who says based on the composite drawing that they have seen on television that this person probably looks like that composite. "

The detectives are asking people, if they will cooperate in this investigation by giving them a picture which the detective takes, and then a sample of their DNA. If it comes as a match then there's a follow up.

The leads are coming from every side of town, and the Sheriff's Department says they need to follow every one of them. It's time consuming, but it has to be done. Meanwhile other detectives are continuing to talk to people in the neighborhood.

Sgt. Gerard Moretz says, "We've also pursued forensic evidence angles , we've got rush orders on lab work to try and establish whether there is DNA evidence present . This is a highly impulsive, highly dangerous predator that we need to find right away."
