During the ramp closures, drivers may use the eastbound and westbound entrance and exit ramps at the adjacent intersections. Message boards and signs will guide drivers through the area.

The work is part of ADOT's $3.4 million project for continued improvements on I-10 that includes removing the existing top layer of pavement, repairing the concrete pavement beneath the top layer, applying a new, smooth driving surface with rubberized asphalt, installing new roadway markings and reconstructing guardrails along this segment of the highway.

The Arizona Department of Transportation will be improving 17 miles of State Route 79 between Oracle Junction and Florence, between mileposts 111 and 128.

The project will include a chip seal coat to improve asphalt conditions
and restriping the roadway. Work is expected to last approximately two months, beginning Tuesday, September 4.

During the project, drivers can expect lane restrictions and reduced speed limits through the project corridor. Pilot cars will be used when the roadway is narrowed to one lane. Drivers are reminded to slow down, proceed through the work zone with caution and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. Delays are possible; please plan accordingly.

Westbound rest area to reopen Friday for holiday travelers

Travel restrictions on westbound Interstate 10 near Texas Canyon will resume after the Labor Day Holiday weekend as the Arizona Department of Transportation continues preparations for repaving 14 miles of westbound I-10.

2013 PAVEMENT PRESERVATION PROGRAM: Oracle road, Drachman to Miracle Mile
Crews from Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation(TDOT), have begun pre-lowering utilities on Oracle Road between Drachman Street and Miracle Mile to prepare for repaving this section of roadway. Crews will be pre-lowering utilities from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., with
single lane closures from Monday, August 20, 2012 to Friday, August 24, 2012.

When paving is complete crews will adjust water valve covers and manhole covers flush with the new asphalt.

As part of this work, concrete will be poured around the covers and barricades will be in place for 24 hours to allow the concrete to cure. This work will be done during daytime hours. This work is expected to be complete by Friday, September 7, 2012.
