CORTARO FARMS RD CLOSED THIS WEEKEND

The Union Pacific Railroad will be performing maintenance work to the railroad crossing at Cortaro Farms Road, and will require closing the road to all traffic (except local), just west of Cerius Stravenue. The closure will begin on July 27 at 8 p.m. and last until July 29 at 6 p.m.

Drivers are advised to take an alternate route if possible and to be aware of all detour signs in the area. Repair work may be delayed, without notice, if there is inclement weather.

I-19 IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin a highway improvement project aimed at increasing driver visibility and safety by removing vegetation, including bushes and trees, from the median of Interstate 19 on Monday, July 30.

Crews will remove vegetation in the median within 30 feet of the interstate from approximately three miles south of Continental Road in Green Valley to the Border Patrol Station on I-19 near Rio Rico. The project , which is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 8, will enhance road safety and prevent pavement damage.

What to expect on I-19 median vegetation project:
• Between 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, from July 30 to Aug. 8, crews will be working to remove vegetation in the I-19 median.
• Traffic will be narrowed to one lane intermittently during work hours. Lane closures will alternate as work continues along the project area.
• Drivers can expect delays of up to five minutes.

VALENCIA AND I-19 WORK

Overnight curb work on Interstate 19 at Valencia Road and the Valencia Road overpass in Tucson begins Sunday.

The Arizona Department of Transportation will be closing lanes and ramps on I-19 at Valencia Road and on the Valencia Road overpass in Tucson for curb work as follows:

Sunday, July 29 (from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning)
• The northbound I-19 entrance ramp at Valencia Road will be closed.
• The right lane on westbound Valencia Road over I-19 will be closed.
• Drivers wishing to access northbound I-19 and westbound Valencia Road may take 12th Avenue or Calle Santa Cruz as a detour.
• Delays of up to five minutes are anticipated.

Monday, July 30 (from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning)
• The left lane on eastbound Valencia Road over I-19 will be closed.
• The left lane on westbound Valencia Road over I-19 will be closed.
• Drivers wishing to access eastbound or westbound Valencia Road may take 12th Avenue or Calle Santa Cruz.
• Delays of up to five minutes are anticipated.

Tuesday, July 31 (from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning)
• The southbound I-19 entrance ramp at Valencia road will be closed.
• The right lane on eastbound Valencia Road over I-19 will be closed.
• Drivers wishing to access eastbound or westbound Valencia Road may take 12th Avenue or Calle Santa Cruz.
• Delays of up to five minutes are anticipated.

I-10 RESTRICTIONS NEAR CASA GRANDE

Westbound Sacaton Rest Area Closed

As maintenance crews work on repaving areas along I-10 in Pinal County, drivers should be aware of the following restrictions:

• Westbound I-10 rest area at Sacaton closed from 4 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday (July 27) for repaving.
• Westbound I-10 on-ramp at State Route 387 closed from 5 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday (July 28) for repaving. DETOUR: Use McCartney Road for access to westbound I-10.

LA CHOLLA BOULEVARD: RIVER ROAD TO RUTHRAUFF ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

Beginning on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, to Friday, July 27, 2012, Pima County Department of Transportation and its contractor, Eagle Rock Excavating, will be performing warranty repair work on the bus pad at the northwest corner of Ruthrauff Road and La Cholla Boulevard. Work crews will be repairing the concrete at the bus pad.
The westbound right-turn lane on Ruthrauff and the southbound right-turn lane on La Cholla will be closed. There will be no restriction on right-turn movements in either direction.

TANGERINE ROAD CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

Beginning July 22 and continuing through July 27, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. each day, construction crews will be fog sealing Tangerine Road from the Union Pacific Railroad to Thornydale Road.

During the operations, pilot vehicles will escort motorists through the construction zone. Motorists may be required to stop for as long as 20 minutes. The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph through the construction zone.

For your safety and that of the construction workers, please comply with all traffic control devices, flagging personnel, and/or detour signs.

Please be aware of construction activities during the course of this project. Your commute and travel time may increase, so please adjust your schedule accordingly. Construction may restrict traffic lanes and create congestion. Taking alternate routes is suggested.

GRANT ROAD / ORACLE ROAD INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

On Monday, July 16, 2012, work will begin on improvements to the Grant Road and Oracle Road Intersection. During the first phase of the intersection improvement project, crews from Falcone Brothers & Associates, Inc., under contract to the Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will remove the median islands on Grant Road. Intersection work will also include the installation of temporary traffic signals. Traffic will be restricted to two lanes in each direction. Crews will be working from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The project is scheduled to be complete in July 2013.

Please use caution when driving, bicycling or walking in the work area. Please obey all traffic control devices and water for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.

The $7.5 million RTA-Funded project will widen Grant Road to six lanes from 15th Avenue to Castro Street, with median island right-turn lane modifications along Oracle Road from Alturas Street south to Rillito Street. As part of the roadway widening, the intersection of Grant Road and Oracle road will be reconstructed to provide indirect left turn intersection operations.

FINAL PHASE OF CONSTRUCTION SABINO CANYON ROAD/TANQUE VERDE ROAD INTERSECTION

Beginning Monday, July 16, 2012, crews from Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin milling, crack-sealing, and paving the intersection improvement area. The milling and paving work will be done at night. Crews will be working from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Thursday. Crack-sealing work will be done during the daytime hours, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Business access will be maintained at all times.

Once paving is completed crews will adjust the water valve covers and manhole covers flush with the new asphalt. During this work, concrete will be poured around the covers and barricades will be in place for 24 hours to allow the concrete to cure.

This phase of the project is expected to take approximately three weeks. This is the last phase of construction. Substantial completion is scheduled for the end of July.

BRIDGE WORK I-10 NEAR TEXAS CANYON

The Arizona Department of Transportation will continue work on westbound Interstate 10 in Cochise County next week in preparation for repaving a 14-mile segment between the east end of Texas Canyon and the east side of Benson.

Crews will continue constructing a new bridge barrier wall at Adams Peak Wash, requiring daily right lane closures on westbound I-10 Monday, July 23 through Friday, July 27. Adams Peak Wash is located between mileposts 309 and 310 west of Texas Canyon.

Guardrail replacement on the western slope of Texas Canyon will require progressive right lane closures on westbound I-10 from milepost 317 to milepost 311. Those closures will be in effect daily from Monday, July 23 through Thursday, July 26. The closure area will be up to three miles long and will move as the work progresses.

In both areas, posted speed limits will be 55 mph and message boards will notify motorists of the restrictions in advance.

The work also includes repairs at the westbound rest area in Texas Canyon, which will remain closed until September. Repaving work is scheduled to begin after the Labor Day weekend.

TEXAS CANYON REST AREA REPAIRS

Rest area will be closed for up to five weeks

Closure of the rest area off westbound Interstate 10 in Texas Canyon has been rescheduled to begin Monday, July 16 to allow the Arizona Department of Transportation to repair worn concrete in the parking area.

The closure, originally scheduled to start Monday, July 9, will be in effect for up to five weeks.

The work is part of a $4.2 million project to resurface westbound I-10 between the Johnson Road traffic interchange (Exit 322) and the east side of Benson which is scheduled to be completed by December 2012.

During the closure, motorists are advised to use available facilities in Willcox or Benson. The nearest highway rest area east of Texas Canyon is located near San Simon at Exit 389. The nearest highway rest area to the west is located near Sacaton, west of Casa Grande.

MODERN STREETCAR WORK
Downtown

• During the week of July 23, the contractor will continue underground utility work along Broadway between Fifth and Stone Avenues. Restrictions will be in place from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning.
• On Sunday, July 22, through Thursday, July 26 there will overnight closures at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Broadway as the contractor performs water line work at the intersection.
• Broadway will be reduced to one eastboun lane through the Fifth Avenue intersection from 7:30 p.m. - 6 a.m.
• North and southbound Fifth Avenue will be closed at Broadway. Vehicles may only turn east onto Broadway.
• During the week of July 23, there will be overnight closures at the intersection of Congress Street and Church Avenue while the contractor completes sewer upgrades.
• Work hours will be from 7:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday, July 22 through Thursday, July 27.
• North and Southbound traffic will not be permitted through the intersection.
• Right turns from southbound Church Avenue to Congress Street will be allowed.
• On Sunday, July 22, there will be an overnight closure of the intersection of Congress Street and Stone Avenue while the contractor performs traffic signal work. This closure will be place from 7:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning.
• During the week of July 23, 2012 there will daytime closures at the intersection of Congress Street and Fifth Avenue.
• This closure will be in place daily from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday, July 23 through Wednesday, July 25.
• North and Southbound traffic will not be permitted through the intersection.

Fourth Avenue and University Boulevard

• On Wednesday, July 25, the contractor will transport welded rail to the work area along University Boulevard between Park and Euclid Avenues. Several segments of rail will be transported.

U of A and Health Sciences Center

• During the week of July 23, the contractor will continue work on the installation of a 16-inch waterline along Speedway Boulevard, between the Warren Avenue Underpass and Martin Avenue. Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists should be prepared for temporary closures and restrictions along Speedway Boulevard, between Cherry and Campbell Avenues. To avoid delays, motorists should plan to use an alternate route when possible. The work is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete
