TUCSON - Circle-K is using high tech surveillance cameras to catch shoplifters. They're posting pictures on Facebook and now there's a pilot program that shows the thieves on the "Crime Monitor" above the cash register.

Carlos Estrada is the loss prevention manager for Arizona and Nevada.

He tells News 4 Tucson, "It's a program designed to display repeat shoplifters in our stores."

The pilot program is in eight stores in Tucson, and four in Phoenix.

"We do lighting, cameras, we do a lot of security measures, time max the safes to minimize the cash," he says.

Circle-K's security center tracks the crimes so they have the pictures, they just need the names so police can make arrests.

"Hopefully giving a conduit for the public to do the right thing. If they see something to give them a safe way to report crime through "Crime Monitor."

The program is working, tips are coming in daily according to Elisabeth Montijo who works for 88-CRIME in the Pima County Attorney's office.

"People are paying attention and they are surprised to know they know somebody that's on the monitor. They get excited and give us call," she says.

Mike O'Connor also works with the Pima County Attorney's office.

"It will make it safer for the people at Circle-K and of course it will make our program more effective and hopefully get these bad guys off the street," he says.

"I think it's going to be great I think it's definitely going to cut down on offenders, it's going to get the word out to the community. It's going to help us out tremendously," says Pima County Sheriff's deputy Jay Habkirk.

88-CRIME wants people to know they can remain anonymous and if the person is arrested that you're calling about and it's due to your information, you will be eligible for up a $1,000 reward.
