TUCSON-The shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school is the deadliest attack against children in the nation's history.

In the wake of it, some in Southern Arizona are calling for stricter gun laws.

So many lives lost in the Newtown shooting.

The tragedy brought flashbacks of January 8th to the Green family who lost their loved ones that day.

The pain of losing a child is still very fresh for John and Roxanna.

"There are no words to describe it," said John Green.

His wife Roxanna said it's a horrific experience.

"You never get over it," he said.

Their daughter Christina-Taylor Green was gunned down January 8, 2011.

She was among 13 wounded and six killed.

"It's very difficult," said John.

He said just imagining 20 young children like his daughter gunned down in Newtown angers him.

"I just know the pain that those families are feeling," said John.

For the Green family, the shootings are a very personal problem.

"We better as a community as a nation figure out how to tackle this problem because this shouldn't happen," said John.

For that reason, they're supporting Mayors Against Illegal Weapons.

"To bring change so that these weapons don't get in the wrong hands," said Roxanna.

They want stricter gun policies that will keep deadly weapons out of the hands of violent people.

Patricia Maisch, a January 8th survivor agrees.

"I think we need to make some adjustments and really crack down on the mentally ill people that are dangerous," said Maisch.

Todd Rathner from the National Rifle Association said it's not that easy.

It is against both state and federal law for the mentally ill to own a gun, but for the most part only those committed to a mental institution are reported to authorities as mentally ill.

"They don't do it because of privacy issues. You know these people if they go beyond just having minor mental health issues, than maybe the police do need to be involved," said Rathner.
