Posted 4:45 PM 5/8/2012 : Eastside family on high alert after their house is broken into twice

TUCSON - Al and Sarah Tripoloni say it was broad daylight when a man jumped over their backyard wall and broke into their house near Golf Links and Pantano. 

"You're supposed to be safe in your own home. I don't feel safe when I come home. I don't know who is in my home," Al said.

It happened last Thursday afternoon, when Al came home from work for lunch around 12:30. His alarm was going off, and when he looked at his kitchen door, he noticed it was broken.

"I walked down the hall into my bedroom and there was stuff scattered all over the house," he continued.

He then called 911 and waited for them to arrive.

During the investigation he learned the intruder had been hiding in the master bathroom shower when Al first came home. He later slipped out through their back door.

But this isn't the first scare for the family. 3 months ago the Tripoloni's had their first break in.

After that they installed a video surveillance camera in their backyard. Luckily, this time around, the camera recorded very clear video of the intruder.

According to the Tucson Police Department, 34 reported burglaries have taken place in the area since the beginning of the year.

April saw 12 alone.

The Tripoloni's neighbors are now taking extra precautions.

Jimmy Harding, who lives across the street, says this recent influx of burglaries has prompted him to take action.

"I've had an alarm system but I'm doing some other measures--updating some things and trying to take care of things on that end."
