TUCSON - A baby javelina is settling into its new home after someone found it on a west side road this morning and brought it to Game and Fish officials.
Early this morning, someone driving on the west side, near Greasewood and Speedway spotted this cute little critter in the road. It still had its umbilical cord attached, so the person stopped, picked up the baby, and took it to the Arizona Game and Fish Department nearby.
The baby is now safe out of the road, but is now heading down a new path in life without its mother.
"This is a classic case of somebody having a good heart, but it's a mistake, because the mother probably was nearby," said Arizona Game and Fish spokesperson Mark Hart. "Now we've got a small, young wildlife species that's going to have to go to a rehab center. We don't know what the rehabber will do, but hopefully provide it with nourishment, care for it, and release it with other javelina down the road."
A wildlife rehab specialist took the baby javelina from Game and Fish.
News 4 Tucson will keep you posted on the baby's progress.
