Posted 5:34 PM 8/29/2013 : ASDB Controversy Continues
Protests have been going on for months at the Aizona School for the Deaf and the Blind, with teachers, students, parents and alumni demanding the firing of Superintendent Robert Hill. Hill's three-year tenure has been under investigation by an outside law firm, and its report was due today.
However, the News 4 Tucson Investigators have obtained an internal memo sent from Hills's assistant to all ASDB staff, saying the investigation will not be completed until early September.
Richard Layton taught agriculture at ASDB in Tucson for 20 months. He was fired in April after filing a grievance against Hill. Layton told the News 4 Tucson Investigators, "The community is upset. We're just afraid that the board is not going to take the right action."
A source told the News 4 Tucson Investigators that the report was delayed because Hill has deliberately been slow on getting requested documents to investigators. We called Hill twice today to get his response. He did not return our calls.
Layton says, "We need closure, and the only way we can have that is by seeing this report."
The completed report on Superintendent Hill is expected to go to the school board on Sept. 6th. The board will announce not long after that whether Hill will be fired or stay on the job.
