Posted 4:00 PM 10/16/2012 : 2 Tucson filmmakers crease Komen PSA, 'I Am Strong'
TUCSON - Two young Tucson filmmakers are making their television debut with a 30-second PSA designed to give women hope in the battle against breast cancer.
Earlier this year, the Southern Arizona Affiliate of Susan G. Komen held a short film competition to create a Public Service Announcement about breast cancer.
Two Art Institute of Tucson graduates, Adriana Garcia and Dusty Dougherty, created "I Am Strong," a 30-second PSA featuring fellow students and staff from the Art Institute, as well as Garcia herself.
"When we set out to create the PSA we both loved the cause and thought it would be a great opportunity to not only support women with breast cancer, but all women in general. Dusty and I were inspired by the idea of empowering women through tough times. We wanted to raise awareness by raising hope," says Garcia, who now works on the TV show Hell's Kitchen in Los Angeles.
"I Am Strong" will be used as a generic PSA for Komen of Southern Arizona, and will be broadcast on network and cable channels across Southern Arizona year-round.
