TUCSON - On this Memorial Day families and friends visit Holy Hope Cemetery to honor those who have fought and died for our freedom.
A special mass is held in the morning and then families go to the gravesites. The Ochoa family honors 10 brothers who served from World War II to Vietnam.
Henry Vega Sr, a Navy Veteran, and relative of the Ochoa's sings a Corrido "El Soldado Razo" or a ballad of the fighting soldier. He dedicates the song to all veterans especially his cousins.
Soldiers like Manuel Ochoa, the oldest of the 10 brothers who served in WWII. He made it back safely as did his brother Antonio, who is buried beside him.
A niece, Frances Figueroa says, "There's two brothers that are buried at Southlawn Cemetery Arcadio Ochoa Jr. and also Jose Ochoa. We have one uncle Ramon Ochoa who is buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in California."
She says Heradio Ochoa served in Korea. He's the only son of Arcadio and Angelita Ochoa's sons who died in combat. Four Ochoa brothers are still living.
Francis and her brother Guillermo visit their uncles' gravesite, but also pay tribute to the grandparents who instilled patriotism in their sons, especially Nana. "She was 97 years old and it was amazing the strength she showed and the pride she showed about her sons because they served in the military."
There were 15 children born to Arcadio and Angelita Ochoa, 10 boys and five girls. Two of the boys were POWs in Korea and made it back.
