Family seeks $2.5 million after teacher preyed upon 13-year-old student

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The parents of the 13-year-old boy who allegedly was having sex with his teacher are taking the first step in a lawsuit against the school district asking for $2.5 million.

Brittany Zamora, 27, was arrested back in March after allegedly having a sexual relationship with her sixth grade student at Las Brisas Academy in Goodyear.

Now, the victim’s lawyers say school officials could have stopped this.

“Principal Dickey is really the one here who could have prevented all of this,” said Russ Richelsoph, the victim’s family's lawyer.

Richelsoph claims Principal Timothy Dickey was aware of rumors about the boy and Zamora. The principal took notes after classmates first reported concerns about the two, and according to the legal claim, neither police nor parents were ever notified about initial concerns.

Days later, police say Zamora would have sexual intercourse with the boy, and sexual acts would continue for weeks after that.

12 News reached out to Liberty Elementary School District, but received no response.

12 News also reached out to Zamora’s lawyer, but has not heard back.

The school district has 60 days to respond to the legal notice of claim. Zamora is due back in court Wednesday morning.
