Saving wild horses from slaughter

Posted: Updated:

GREEN VALLEY - Wild horses were sent to auction Saturday after not being claimed.

"The problem with that that is that there are killer buyers that frequent the auctions and these are people that their sole purpose is to get free resources horses, cheap horses to fill up their trailers to send them off to Mexico for slaughter for human consumption," said found of Equine Voices, Rescue, and Sanctuary Karen Pomroy.

That weekend, Equine Voices outbid potential buyers, with hopes of giving these horses a better future.

"Nobody wanted the stallion that we received and I put my name out there and said I'll take the stallion if nobody wants them because I was really concerned about him," Pomroy said. "Then come to find out, the other two are part of his little family. So with some negotiation, I ended up with the three of them so they could stay together but he would've ended up with slaughter of nobody stepped up to the plate."

Pomroy said she is not one to ask for donations but really needs some help.

"We do have three horses here that need medical attention. The baby probably from the roundup has scars all over his back a wound on his behind in a wound on his lip."

Donations are being accepted online at equinevoices.org.
