PCSD sergeant receives national honor for act of heroism

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - A Pima County Sheriff sergeant was honored Tuesday during the regular Board of Supervisors meeting for an act of heroism.

Tuesday, Pima County Sheriff Mark Napier presented a Carnegie Medal of Honor certificate to Sgt. Brian Kunze for his involvement in a rescue that occurred June 18, 2016. That day, the sergeant rescued an 82-year-old, bed-ridden woman from a home explosion and fire.

Both the sergeant and the woman left the scene minor cuts in the incidents.

After receiving this, Kunze will join 18 other Carnegie Medal of Honor recipients awarded this year.
