President of Catholic Charities USA visits local migrant shelter

Posted: Updated:

The president of the Catholic Charities USA flew in from Washington D.C. to visit the border and a local migrant shelter on Thursday.

Sister Donna Markham, O.P., along with Bishop Edward Weisenburger from the Diocese of Tucson visited Casa Alitas.

Casa Alitas is a small shelter home in Tucson that assists migrant mothers with children and pregnant women, who have been released by ICE, may travel to join family members already in the US and/or are waiting for an immigration hearing.

Volunteers and the Catholic Community Services provide migrants women and their children with food, water, clothing and hygiene items.

Volunteers also help migrants contact their family members and arrange bus transportation.
