Phoenix firefighters battling large blaze at a supermarket

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - Firefighters are battling a large blaze at a supermarket in Phoenix that broke out during a monsoon storm, but there's no immediate reports of any injuries.

The fire broke out around 6 p.m. Wednesday and authorities say it's unclear if the Safeway supermarket on 35th Avenue and Northern Avenue was struck by lightning.

Phoenix Fire Department officials say they responded to a report of a roof collapse at the supermarket with a possible fire associated with the collapse.

Television footage show the supermarket completely engulfed in flames with a huge plume of black smoke rising over part of the city.
