600 underprivileged children receive backpacks, school supplies

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE - The Children's Clinic and the Chapman Green team handed out the backpacks on Wednesday, July 11.

"The look on the faces of a child, who might not have had a backpack, the school supplies, and the new haircut, that they need to be ready for a new school year .. That opportunity here is one of the most heartwarming experiences that I have ever had," said Chief Administrative Officer Gemma Thomas.

The back to school fair is the largest event of the year for the Children's Clinic.

TUCSON - The Children's Clinic is partnering with the Chapman Green Team to give backpacks and school supplies to 600 patients.

The groups got together on Tuesday, July 10 to put the backpacks together.

The underprivileged kids who received this special surprise are dealing with complex medical conditions.

Therefore, they are unable to properly prepare for the upcoming school year.

Each child will receive basic school supplies such as pencils, glue sticks, notebooks and folders.

"Many of our families, other than providing exceptional healthcare, we also do a number of things to take care of families in the community," Chief Administrative Officer Gemma Thomas said.

The public can help by donating and volunteering their time to help support the Children's Clinic.
