Blowing dust advisory in effect for Tucson Metro area

The National Weather Service in Tucson has issued a Blowing Dust Advisory, which is in effect this afternoon until 8 p.m. this evening.

Strong, gusty winds are expected to develop this afternoon through portions of Pima and Pinal counties. These winds are expected to move to the southwest. Gusty winds between 35-45 mph are possible this afternoon and evening. Localized winds can exceed 45 mph.

Keep in mind, blowing dust can restrict visibility below a mile, which can pose hazards for drivers. Additionally, dense, blowing dust could reduce visibility to less than a quarter mile. If you an encounter localized dust, do not drive into it if possible.

Strong and gusty winds can additionally blow dust into the air. Individuals with respiratory sensitivities may want to reduce their time outdoors.
