Gustnado spotted in Tucson Saturday afternoon

Posted: Updated:

A gustnado was spotted in Southeast Tucson on Saturday afternoon as monsoon storms moved through the area.

A gustnado is a weak, short-lived tornado-like vortex produced by the winds of a thunderstorm. These do not connect with a cloud, so they cannot be considered a tornado.

Keep in mind, some gustnadoes can produce winds between 60-80 mph and can cause severe damage.

The National Weather Service says they have not heard of reported damage caused by this gustnado.
