Ready, set, sizzle. The hottest day of the year is in the forecast

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - After an uneventful 4th of July in Tucson weatherwise, Mother Nature is beginning to stir up the pot.

So far 107 degrees is the hottest temperature Tucson has eked out in this early Summer according to Chief Meteorologist Matt Brode.

A strong dome of high pressure will move closer to the region Thursday and Friday and an Excessive Heat Warning has been issued - and expanded to include the City of Tucson.

The forecast high for Tucson is 109 with 110+ heat building in the western Deserts. Breezy east winds will pick-up on Friday and temperatures will cool a few degrees.

Late in the weekend high pressure will set up close to the Four Corners which will allow moist air to move into the region. This will lead to a major uptick in PM storm chances for most of southeastern Arizona Sunday through much of next week.
