N4T Investigators: Court documents show east side homicide suspect's history of abuse

Posted: Updated:

The Tucson Police Department identified one of the victims and the suspect in Thursday's deadly shooting on the east side near Houghton and Speedway.

Investigators said 49-year old Donald Stanley shot and killed his stepson 15-year old Christian Garcia-Sanchez. He also shot his wife who remains in critical condition and then Stanley killed himself.

A neighbor called 911 just before 1 p.m. after the couple's 10-year-son ran to her house for help. When officers arrived, no one answered the door and the swat team sent in a camera-equipped robot that found Stanley's body and saw that his wife was still moving.

Stanley and his ex-wife divorced in 2006, according to court documents.

After 14 years of marriage in a court filing in July of that year, the woman said Stanley was refusing to comply with the terms of the couple's visitation agreement regarding their six-year-old child.

She went on to tell the court out of fear she moved out-of-state stating Stanley threatened to "kill her, dump her body in the desert...and flee to Mexico with their child."

A judge granted Stanley's soon-to-be-ex an order of protection while Stanley was facing domestic violence charges in another southern Arizona court.

As late as 2016, he was still paying court-ordered child support, according to court documents.
