TPD identifies victim in Tuesday's bicycle collision

UPDATE - Tucson Police has identified the victim involved in a fatal crash on Tuesday.

Katie A. Tucker, 34,  was pronounced dead at the hospital after being hit by a car. 

Police say that Tucker was riding westbound on Ft. Lowell Rd, when the driver of a beige 2000 Ford Focus was westbound on Ft. Lowell Rd., and began to merge into the median lane, checking the mirror. 

According to a press release, "the driver changed lanes and then observed Ms. Tucker directly in front of the vehicle. The driver was not able to stop and collided with Ms. Tucker."

Tucker was not wearing a helmet, police say. 

The driver remained on scene. Speed nor impairment appear to be factors in the collision. 

UPDATE - According to the Tucson Police Department, the adult female bicyclist died due to her injuries. The road will remain closed while detectives investigate. 

TUCSON - The Tucson Police Department said they are working a crash involving a bicyclist with serious injuries on Fort Lowell near Oracle Road. 

Sgt. Kimberly Bay said Fort Lowell between Oracle Road and Stone Avenue is closed. 

Drivers are advised to take alternate routes.
