Chandler 911 dispatcher killed in head-on crash north of Flagstaff

Posted: Updated:

A 911 dispatcher has died after being hit head-on while riding her motorcycle in northern Arizona Sunday, according to the Chandler Police Department.

Cathy Coppes was headed southbound on U.S. 89 about 20 miles north of Flagstaff just after 10:30 a.m. when a northbound pickup truck crossed the center line and hit her.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said a 42-year-old man from Kaibeto was driving the truck.

A release from Chandler PD said that the 58-year-old Coppes was killed on impact. She is survived by her husband.

Coppes began working with Chandler PD in April 2002.

DPS said Coppes was not wearing a helmet. DPS also said the driver of the pickup was not wearing a seat belt and was taken to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment.

Impairment has not been ruled out as a factor in the crash, and DPS is still investigating.
