N4T Investigators: Gambling on Arizona

A recent decision by the United State Supreme Court has cleared the way for legalized sports betting nationwide.

However, a News 4 Tucson investigation found that when it comes to having sports betting, Arizona is far behind other states.

That's because before sports betting can be legalized, Arizona must pass new laws allowing it.

Nevada is currently the only state that has full legalized sports betting.

Mississippi, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania have recently passed bills allowing sports betting.

Illinois, Michigan, New York, Indiana, Connecticut, Rhode Island, California, Missouri,  Kentucky, Maryland, Kansas, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Louisiana have recently proposed bills that would allow gambling.

There is a growing push to legalize sports betting in Arizona.

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich joined the initial Supreme Court case.

"I believe in Federalism and I believe that when it comes to issues like gambling those are issues that are meant to be left to the states, " said Brnovich.

Governor Doug Ducey has also expressed interest in bring gambling to Arizona. Tweeting out a message that it could bring a lot of money to the state.
