Gusty winds gearing up for a return

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - A few weather features are bringing back the breezes.

This afternoon features light westerly winds around 5-10 MPH, according to 4WARN Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Daytime highs in Metro Tucson peak in the upper 90s today, running 6-8° above average.

Developing near San Francisco is an area of low pressure, which will weaken as it moves inland. As it advances toward Arizona, it will turn on the Sonoran Wind Machine tomorrow. Expect 15-25 MPH gusts out of the southwest Thursday, likely increasing the wildfire danger. Breezes ease up in time for the weekend.

Another round of gusty winds may return early next week. Models hint at a stronger storm system parking west of the state, increasing wind speeds as early as Monday. Highs this weekend and early next week reach the low to mid 90s.
