Pima Community College PD using electric patrol motorcycle

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - If you’ve driven past Pima Community College’s downtown campus, you might have noticed the police department’s newest ride.

PCC PD received an electric motorcycle in October through a $27,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

“It's small, it's quiet,” said Sgt. Joshua Blum. “And we can take it right through all the places people can walk through.”

The motorcycle has already helped the department better patrol the campus, and the areas around it.

“Around the Speedway and Stone intersection, we have a lot of collisions,” said Sgt. Blum. “And we have a hard time enforcing in that particular intersection because there's not a good spot to park a patrol car... A motorcycle is a much more useful tool for that intersection especially.”

The department also received a $20,000 grant to assist other law enforcement agencies in DUI patrols through September 2018.
