Two people, dog escape grease fire at midtown apartment

TUCSON (KVOA) -- Two people and their dog safely escaped a grease fire that started in the kitchen of a midtown apartment Sunday evening.

Tucson Fire responded to the apartment fire at around 7:12 p.m.located near East Pima Street and North Columbus Blvd.

It took 24 firefighters nine minutes to bring the fire under control.

Paramedics evaluated one of the residents at the scene but did not transport them to the hospital. There were no injuries to firefighters.

The residents, a man and a woman in their 30s, are now being assisted by the Red Cross.

Fire investigators say unattended cooking was to blame for the cause of the grease fire.
