South Tucson -

A fire Friday night has closed an iconic family owned restaurant in South Tucson. Micha's, owned by the Mariscal family for over 40-years was severely damaged in the blaze.

The Mexican style restaurant is now closed permanently until the owners can rebuild.

"The owners are devastated. It's been in the family since 1976. It's family owned. It's devastating. It's a Tucson landmark," said Ruben Cruz a friend of the owners.

According to South Tucson Fire the restaurant was on fire Friday night around ten.

"It was in the kitchen area and it's kinda at times a common area where a fire starts," said South Tucson Fire Captain Andy Luna.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.  As for now investigators are determining the amount of damage.

"There was a lot of damage and a lot of water that was put on the fire. So again I believe inspectors are investigating that," said Luna.

Cruz says the family is hoping to keep the restaurant alive.

"They are saying they are going to rebuild. You know right now they are all just in shock that this happened. But everybody is safe," said Cruz.

For now Cruz's family is just left with memories while Micha's is left closed.

"It's special because I've been coming here since I was my kids age to. So it's been around a long time and it's great food," said Cruz.
