Furry friends found families today at the fourth annual, "Adopt Love Adopt Local" adoption event hosted by the Pima Alliance for Animal Welfare (PAAW).

Dozens of non-profit groups such as the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, PetSmart Charities and the Pima Animal Care Center had booths in the Tucson Expo Center.

Volunteers held puppies in their arms or sat by crates of dogs or cats, ready to answer questions to help get the animals adopted.

Families looking to adopt could sign the papers right there and bring a pet home.

Vendors also sold leashes, shirts, collars and other pet needs for families to buy.

One of those families, the Saunders. adopted because two of their older dogs died.

"We just felt we needed another dog for our current dog," Stephanie Saunders said, holding her new puppy. "It gets lonely so we needed one."

Over 30,000 pets enter animal shelters and rescue groups each year in Pima County, according to PAAW's website. This event was one way to get those animals out of a shelter and into a home.
