Firefighters are battling flames and high winds at Rattlesnake fire

Posted: Updated:

WHITERIVER - Wildfire crews are fighting the Rattlesnake Fire burning in northern Arizona.

Four hotshot crews along with firefighters from Cibecue and Ft. Apache are assigned to the fire. Six fire engines, three helicopters and a bulldozer are all being utilized.

Fire crews are also burning land in front of the Rattlesnake Fire trying to contain the main blaze.

The fire has already burned 400 acres on the Fort Apache Reservation land north of Whiteriver. Crews are concerned that high winds could drive the fire through the pine and grass fuels.

A red flag warning is in place across Arizona and campfires are prohibited.

The Rattlesnake Fire started Tuesday, the cause is under investigation.
