TOMBSTONE - In response to the recent school shootings in Florida and across the nation, Tombstone High School posted a sign that serves as a warning to any possible threats to the school.

The sign posted on the main gate of the school reads in large block orange letters “WARNING” then reads in black font “Some TUSD. staff may be armed and will use whatever force necessary to protect our students.”

Now as Tombstone High students walk on campus, they are reminded that staff members have the potential to protect students as well.

News 4 Tucson’s Eric Fink talked with T.U.S.D superintendent Robert Devere about the new sign.

“We will protect our students every way we legally can and that’s what we’re doing. We do arm teachers at times. We always follow the law, district policy, state policy and federal policy” Devere said.

As for if the teachers and staff are trained to handle weapons on campus, Devere did not comment on that matter.
