These cowboy boots can stand the Arizona heat

Cowboy boot clad Arizonans rejoice!

As the Grand Canyon State prepares for the daunting spring and summer temperatures, there are finally some cowboy boots that can withstand the heat.

They're not cowboy boots and they're not sandals — they're both.

Scotty Franklin said it all started with a joke. He had the idea for the cowboy boot sandal when he saw a man on the beach in the Gulf Coast and thought he must be miserable. Franklin went home, cut up an old pair of cowboy boots and, using an industrial stapler and shoe string, attached them to flip flops.

Now Franklin makes custom cowboy boot sandals with a team of professional cobblers. Since 2014, Franklin has sold several thousands of pairs through his company Redneck Boot Sandals.

Franklin said his creation is popular in Texas, of course, but has sold pairs everywhere from Mexico to California to New York to Canada, parts of Europe and even Australia.

In Arizona, Franklin said he's sold pairs to Valley residents in Phoenix and Scottsdale. His boot sandals have even reached the High Country, he said.

The Redneck Boot Sandals come in two styles: flip flop and double strap. Franklin says 90 percent of the orders we receives are for the flip flop style, though.

The shoes are currently only made for custom orders, but Franklin hopes to manufacture them in the U.S. soon.

Franklin admits his product is, uh, eye-catching, but he said he doesn't let any negative comments get him down.

"We just want to have fun and make people laugh," Franklin said. "People don’t take change well, but once they start to see it more, more people will change their mind."

So, know anyone who needs a pair?
