TUCSON – A dog was found on the side of the road sealed in a box Sunday near Catalina Highway and Tres Lomas Drive.
A Good Samaritan spotted the box while walking their dog, and opened it when they noticed that it was moving.
The dog was rushed to the Pima Animal Care Center for immediate care. He is now being cared for by Lil Bit of Love, and has been named 'Buddy'. The organization's director, Nicole Linneen, said he came to them in rough shape.
"He was really emaciated, couldn't stand without falling," she said.
Doctors at Pet Doctor RX said it appears Buddy had been starved for months before being found on the side of the road. Linneen said he still has a long road to recovery, but they'll be behind him every step of the way.
"He's doing a lot better, up and walking. He's eating, he's got a lot more energy," said Linneen. " [He] just wants to be around people all the time. [He] just wants love."
When he has fully recovered, the Good Samaritan who first found Buddy plans to adopt him.
The Pima Animal Care Center is investigating the case. If you have any information on who might have done this to Buddy, you're urged to call Pima Animal Care Center at 520-724-5900.
