CRIME TRACKERS: Willcox substitute arrested for sending inappropriate material

Posted: Updated:

WILLCOX - An assistant coach, who is also substitute teacher, has been fired for sending inappropriate texts, pictures and videos on social media.

Parents received a letter from the superintendent telling them Jermaine Waddy, 28, was no longer allowed on campus.

In less than 24 hours, he was arrested and fired from Willcox High School.

Kevin Davis, the Willcox Superintendent told News 4 Tucson, on Monday they had received several reports from female students that Waddy had sent them text messages, pictures and video on Snapchat.

The 28-year-old former assistant football coach had only been with the district since last August. He had volunteered to coach track this spring.

Willcox Police Chief José Rios said the school called them immediately and detectives began their investigation into the incident.

"This incident did happen, detectives preserved the photos and videos as evidence therefore able to find probable cause to make the arrest."

Chief Rios said Waddy denied any wrongdoing. The chief added, the material Waddy had sent was sexual in nature.

He also praised the school district, his officers and the students.

"We’re extremely proud of them they came forward so that nobody else would become a victim."

The superintendent said the students lived up to the Willcox Cowboy Creed, of work hard, have integrity and show respect.

"We’re proud of them coming forward and talking to the administration and kudos to the administration for having the relationship with the students.  That they feel safe that they can come talk about these things should they happen."

Waddy was booked into the Cochise County Jail, and the judge placed him under a $300,000 cash bond.
